Breathe in deep today. Let it come right through your lungs down to your toes, slow and easy and back out again. We get to be still in this gospel truth today: God the Creator created us in His image so that we might create reflections of Him to remind each other of His goodness. Beauty, love, art, kindness, wisdom- they all serve to draw us closer to the One. To remind us of Who He is and who we are as His beloved creation. We mirror His goodness to one another. The beauty we create is evidence of the Image we were created in.
But what does it even mean to be created?
To be able to close your eyes and enter into the knowledge that there is One greater, One who existed before time? When the world looks like a wasteland, what would it feel like to remember that we were carefully formed by hands that have held us and led us and caressed all the deepest hurts we hold?
To remember that we have a Father.
To remember that we’re created means to have a solid foundation to stand upon and who doesn’t need a little more of that in this wobbly world? Even if your past tells you something different, even if your mind clings to a narrative that brings you pain- you and I were created in the same image for the same purpose. God called HIs creation good because He delights in goodness. Simple, sweet goodness.
And so His hands began to knit you together, slow and careful. With great intention and delight He formed you, just as you are, a reflection of Him.
And maybe things have been hard. Sometimes when we’ve been hurt or bruised or for whatever reason things haven’t gone well early on, we can begin to think that God must’ve made a mistake somewhere along with way. After all, how could a good Creator allow pain? Free will and sin and hard hearts may have their way with this world, but they do not define us. Pain doesn’t change who you are and it doesn’t change who God is.
To be created means to know we have a solid foundation underneath us. To be created means to know we’re a part of a template created by a God who is in charge- to know that we’re created with intention. To understand that we are created means that we can rely on the creator. When the storms rage, when loss reigns down, when an uncertain future looms large, when loneliness spreads out in the soul– just for today…
Be still and know.
